Parents,

Archbishop Miller has mandated that all parents of Grade 4-7 students in Catholic schools participate in a “Sexuality and Your Child” Parenting Evening.  The purpose of these evenings is to assist parents in understanding how and when to communicate with their child about a healthy, Christian approach to sexuality.  The evenings hosted at CCS in the past have been very well-received and we want to keep things fresh by trying a new format this year.  This year we will be hosting a screening of the documentary Over 18.

Over 18 is a clear-eyed examination of modern pornography and its effects on kids, teens, parents, and porn stars. In addition to interviews with porn producers, ex-porn stars, and academics, directors Jared and Michelle Brock highlight the story of Joseph, a 13-year-old boy who is recovering from a porn addiction that he fell into when he was nine years old. The film compares what porn used to be in the magazine era and what it’s become in the age of the internet, and demonstrates why kids, in particular, are susceptible to addiction.

I have been working with kids and teens for over 20 years and I can tell you that explicit sexual content is having a major impact on how kids think of themselves and treat others.

This presentation is mandatory for all parents in Grade 4-7, but parents of children in all grades are welcome to attend.  CCS will host a screening of Over 18 at 7pm, on April 16th.  We will host the event at the Clova Theatre, which is located just a couple of blocks away from the school, at 5732 176 St, Surrey.

This documentary is a powerful, moving experience that will open many eyes and get parents to take action and protect their children.  You will not find this documentary online and we only have a license to show it once.  It is imperative that every parent in Grades 4-7 attend this event!

Sincerely,

Mr. Jason Borkowski

Principal
